Why we really love the Gruffalo......

Its long since been proven that reading to children offers many benefits such as the development of vital imagination skills but where do you start when it comes to picking a story?

With so many childrens books on the market its difficult to know which to choose but we believe you can’t go wrong with The Gruffalo written by Julia Donaldson, The author of many other classic childrens books such as Room on the Broom, Scarecrow’s Wedding, Stickman (and those are just the ones we really, really love…..) her stories are perfect for children but for us The Gruffalo holds a special place in our heart.

A story of a clever mouse, three large animals that want to eat him and an imaginary monster its written with a lovely gentle humour and a songlike rhythm of words that make the book a joy to read aloud.

"A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood.
A fox saw the mouse and the mouse looked good."

On top of that the beautiful illustrations by Axel Scheffler really brings the characters such as mouse, snake and owl to life but more importantly who could fail to adore the Gruffalo himself when he’s described as:

‘His eyes are orange, his tongue is black. He has purple prickles all over his back’

And with so many Gruffalo toys available children can even have their favourite character to cuddle in bed at night too so why not browse our range here.
